PEEK Vs. PTFE

What is the difference between PEEK and fluoroplastics?

PEEK and fluorine plastic difference is very obvious.

Temperature resistance: PEEK melting point of 334 degrees, heat distortion temperature of more than two hundred nearly 300 degrees, long-term use temperature of 260 degrees or more. Fluorine plastic types, temperature resistance is much lower than PEEK.

Mechanical strength: PEEK is a high-strength materials, strength is much higher than fluorine plastic.

Wear resistance: both wear resistance is excellent, lubrication performance of fluorine plastic (PTFE) is better than PEEK, but PEEK hardness is high, the amount of abrasion is lower than fluorine plastic, especially high-temperature and high-pressure abrasion resistance, PEEK is better than fluorine plastic.

Chemical resistance: fluorine plastic is better than PEEK, PEEK can not withstand high temperature corrosion of strong acids.

Processing performance: PEEK is better than fluorine plastic, PEEK has good processing performance, can be injection molding, extrusion, blow molding, blown film, etc., fluorine plastic general processing performance is poor, part of the fluorine plastic can be injection molding, extrusion, etc., but PTFE due to the extremely low mobility, is not suitable for injection molding process, generally only suitable for molding, sintering.

Safety: PEEK is better than fluoroplastics, PEEK has excellent safety performance, good biocompatibility, can be used in food contact, medical and other fields.

Price: PEEK is much higher than fluorine plastic.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of the two materials PEEK and PTFE?

The advantages of PEEK material compared with PTFE material are high strength, good abrasion resistance, high mechanical strength at high temperatures, dimensional stability, good creep resistance, injection molding.

The advantage of PTFE material is low surface friction coefficient, corrosion resistance is better than PEEK material.

PEEK Chinese name is polyether ether ketone, PTFE Chinese name is Polytetrafluoroethylene, PEEK belongs to the thermoplastic materials, can be injection molding, PTFE belongs to the thermosetting plastics, can only be sintered by cold pressing molding, both can be molded with rod or plate machining.

In terms of temperature resistance, PEEK temperature resistance can reach 260 ℃, but PTFE can only be 220 ℃, and the temperature exceeds 150 ℃, PTFE appears softening, there is no strength, but PEEK still maintain good mechanical strength. PTFE corrosion resistance is better than PEEK, the price difference between the two is very large, PEEK price is much more expensive, in terms of use, PEEK is widely used in aerospace, aviation and aeronautics. PEEK is widely used in aerospace, medical machinery, automotive industry, petroleum industry, etc. PTFE can be used for lubrication materials, as well as in a variety of frequencies used in electrical insulation parts, capacitor dielectrics, wire insulation, electrical instrumentation insulation.

ESD PEEK

Compared to PTFE seals, seals made of PEEK provide mechanical support for softer sealing materials.

PEEK seals are high-performance plastic seals that offer many advantages over traditional PTFE seals. In seawater, hydrocarbons, and 100% hydrogen sulfide gas environment, after 175 ℃ high temperature for 1000 hours, PEEK seals strength retention rate of 100%, which is unmatched by PTFE, PEEK seals are a kind of high-strength seals, compared with PTFE seals have more advantages, the following are a few specific advantages:

First of all, the compressive capacity of PEEK seals than PTFE doubled, so its performance in high-pressure environments is more excellent, creep resistance increased by 300 times, compression creep resistance increased by 18 times, so in the long term use to maintain better performance, these advantages make PEEK seals in high temperature, high pressure, high speed, high friction, high corrosion and other harsh environments to better These advantages enable PEEK seals to play a better role in harsh environments such as high temperature, high pressure, high speed, high friction and high corrosion, and extend the service life of the seals.

In addition, PEEK seals in the high temperature environment is also very outstanding performance, after 175 ℃ high temperature 1000 hours can still maintain the strength, while PTFE there is a significant loss, PEEK seals can also replace the metal spring, reduce the seal wear contact with the well wall, and the risk caused by (energy-absorbing springs), it can also be used for softer sealing materials (such as elastomers and fluoropolymers) to provide mechanical support for softer sealing materials such as elastomers and fluoropolymers, making them more stable and reliable in use.

In some industries, such as the oil and gas industry, the main use of PEEK is to provide mechanical support for softer sealing materials, while in other industries, its performance makes it very suitable for use as a primary seal, the emergence of PEEK seals brings more options and possibilities for our industrial production, in general, PEEK seals have more advantages compared to PTFE seals, and therefore more suitable for use under high pressure, In general, PEEK seals have more advantages than PTFE seals, so they are more suitable for high pressure, high temperature and other harsh environments.
