Introduction to the types of ABS plastics and their performance advantages and disadvantages

ABS Introduction

ABS plastic is currently the most widely used polymer, with PS, SAN, BS a variety of excellent performance, and has excellent toughness, stiffness and stiffness balanced mechanical properties. ABS is a terpolymer of acrylonitrile, butadiene and styrene, A is acrylonitrile, B is butadiene, S is styrene.

ABS plastic is an extremely versatile thermoplastic engineering plastic, is currently the largest production, the most widely used polymers. abs is a terpolymer of acrylonitrile, butadiene and styrene, its English name is: Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene, Acrylonitrile (Acrylonitrile), Butadiene (Butadiene), Styrene (Butadiene), ABS is a terpolymer of acrylonitrile, butadiene and styrene. Acrylonitrile (acrylonitrile), Butadiene (butadiene), Styrene (styrene), so called abs.

Performance Profile

General Properties

ABS has the appearance of an opaque, ivory-colored pellet that can be vividly colored and has a high gloss. ABS has a relative density of approximately 1.05 and low water absorption. ABS blends well with other materials and is easy to surface print, coat and plate. ABS is a flammable polymer with an oxygen index of 18-20. the flame is yellow with black smoke and a distinctive cinnamon odor.

Mechanical Properties

ABS has excellent mechanical properties with very good impact strength and can be used at very low temperatures. ABS has excellent wear resistance, excellent dimensional stability and oil resistance and can be used in bearings under moderate loads and high speeds. ABS is more resistant to creep than PSF and PC and less so than PA and POM. The flexural and compressive strength of ABS is insufficient among plastics. The mechanical properties of ABS are highly sensitive to temperature.

Thermal Properties

The heat distortion temperature of ABS is 93-118℃. After annealing, the product will rise about 10 ℃. ABS shows some toughness even at -40°C and can be used in temperatures ranging from -40 to 100°C.

Electrical Properties

ABS is highly electrically insulating, is virtually unaffected by temperature, humidity and frequency, and can be used in most environments.

Environmental Properties

ABS is unaffected by water, inorganic salts, alkalis, and various acids, but it is soluble in ketones, aldehydes, and chlorinated hydrocarbons, and causes stress cracks when invaded by glacial acetic acid, vegetable oils, and the like. ABS has low weathering resistance and tends to deteriorate due to UV rays. Impact strength is halved when used outdoors for six months.

Processability

Like PS, ABS is a thermoplastic resin with excellent processing properties and can be processed by conventional processing methods.

ABS melt flow (like PVC and HIPS) is superior to that of PVC and PC, but inferior to that of PE, PA, and PS. ABS flow characteristics are those of a Newtonian fluid, which has a melt viscosity, processing temperature, and shear rate, but is susceptible to shear rate.

ABS has good thermal stability and is not easily deteriorated. ABS has a high water absorption rate and must be dried before processing. Typical drying conditions for products are 80 to 85°C for 2 to 4 h. For products with special requirements (plating, etc.), the temperature is 70 to 80°C for 18 to 18 h. ABS products that are being processed may have internal stresses, which you can check by immersing them in glacial acetic acid. If the stress is too high and the product is absolutely, positively not allowed to crack, it needs to be annealed and placed in a hot air circulating drying oven at 70 to 80°C for 24 hours and then cooled to room temperature.

What is the abs plastic made of

What are the uses of abs sheet?

Food industry parts, architectural models, handmade panels, phase-forming electronic industry parts, refrigerator and refrigeration industry, electrical and electronic fields, pharmaceutical industry, automotive parts (dashboards, tool hatches, wheel covers, reflector cases, etc.), radio cases, telephone handles, heavy-duty tools (vacuum cleaners, hair dryers, blenders, lawnmowers, etc.), typewriter keyboards, recreational vehicles such as golf carts and jet cars, and so on. snowmobiles, etc.

The largest applications for ABS plastics are automotive, electrical appliances and building materials. Automotive applications include automotive dashboards, body panels, interior panels, steering wheels, soundproofing panels, door locks, bumpers, ventilation ducts and many other components. As appliances, they are widely used in electronic equipment such as refrigerators, televisions, washing machines, air conditioners, personal computers and copiers. In terms of building materials, ABS pipes, ABS sanitary ware and ABS decorative panels are widely used in the building materials industry. In addition, ABS is also widely used in packaging, furniture, sports and recreational products, machinery and musical instruments industries.

Is abs plastic toxic and harmful to human body?

ABS plastic is a kind of engineering plastics widely used in machinery, electrical, textile, automobile, aircraft, ships and other manufacturing industries, ABS engineering plastics are generally opaque, the appearance of light ivory, non-toxic, tasteless, and both tough, hard, rigid characteristics, burning slowly, the flame is yellow, there is a black smoke, after burning the plastic is softened, burning, emitting a special cinnamon odor, but no molten dripping phenomenon.

This plastic will produce a foul odor when burning, so try not to burn, but will not be in direct contact with the human body will cause harm, this point we do not have to worry about, and will not release formaldehyde substances, just this material relative to the old saying can be poor weather resistance, low ignition point is easy to deformation and other shortcomings.

The product classification introduction

ABS according to the impact strength can be divided into: ultra-high impact type, high impact type, medium impact type and other varieties;

ABS according to the differences in molding process, can be divided into: injection, extrusion, calendering, vacuum, blow molding and other varieties; ABS according to the characteristics of the use and performance can also be divided into: general-purpose grade, heat-resistant grade, plating grade, flame-retardant grade, transparent grade, anti-static, extrusion plate grade, pipe grade and other varieties.

Heat-resistant grade ABS sheet than the general-purpose grade ABS sheet heat-resistant temperature is high, mainly used for heat appliances shell, such as hair dryers, coffee makers, soybean milk machines, etc., and some air conditioning vents, automobile instrument panels above.

Flame-retardant ABS sheet has good flame-retardant properties, and is widely used in the shells of home appliances, plug-in boards, computer peripheral shells and other products that require flame-retardant requirements.

Electroplating grade ABS sheet is widely used in automobile interiors and sanitary equipment, and the products made from it are characterized by not easy to break.

High fluidity ABS boards are mainly used for products with relatively complex shapes and large areas, including motorcycle fenders, large home appliance housings and so on.

What is the difference between abs plastic and PVC plastic?

Abs plastic and PVC plastic are two major domestic production of two types of plastics, which abs plastic is mainly applied to the engineering field, and PVC plastic applications will be more broadly in favor of the field of life, can be used for plates, home decoration, toys, doors and windows, etc., is the life of the highest frequency of use of plastics.
