What do you mean by special engineering plastics?

Special engineering plastics is the overall performance is relatively high, long-term use of temperature above 150 ℃ a class of rubber products, mainly contains polyphenylene ether (PPS), polyacrylonitrile (PI), polyether ether ketone (PEEK), liquid crystal screen polymer (LCP) and polysulfone (PSF). Specialty engineering plastics have special and outstanding process performance, and are widely used in electronic and electrical appliances, special industrial production and other high-tech fields.

Specialty engineering plastics in the world from the 20th century 60's to the early 80's, when the U.S. and Russia two hegemony of the U.S.S.R. Cold War in the Ukraine crisis of the market demand for the development of a new generation of excellent performance of polymer materials. At the beginning, it was called heat-resistant polymer material (in contrast to rubber products). At the present stage, it is usually called Specialty Engineering Plastics (Super Engineering Plastics) or High Performance Polymer (High Performance Polymer). Since the introduction of Polyacrylonitrile (PI) in the 60's until the commercialization of PEEK in the early 80's, the key types of research and development completed and the industrial development have been:

1. Polyacrylonitrile (PI);

2. Polyamideimide (PAI);

3. Polyetherimide (PEI);

4. Polyarylate (U-polymer);

5. Polyphenylene ether (PPS);

6. Polysulfone (PSF)

7. Polyethersulfone (PES)

8. Polyether ether ketone (PEEK) and so on.

The development of special engineering plastics

1) Physical property level:

a. High insulation level (generally defined as UL temperature index above 150 ℃);

b. High structural mechanical strength (generally 2 to 4 times the plastic raw materials);

c. Superior overall performance (such as resistance to radiation sources, high temperature, marble).

d. Extraordinary stability and beyond the characteristics of traditional polymers.

2) Production process level:

a. Production and processing temperature is high (generally in the 300 ~ 400 ℃);

b. High injection pressure (generally need 120MPa ~ 160MPa);

c. Abrasives must be heated (the opposite of the cooling of plastic raw materials);

d. Hot runner system is preferred.

Application of Specialty Engineering Plastics

A typical characteristic of specialty engineering plastics is that the total production is relatively small and the main use is unique. These materials were first created to meet the needs of the defense industry or scientific research. At the present stage, the application is migrating to the civilian level.

1. Aerospace Engineering

Because of the unique use of the space shuttle environment, so it requires the structure of the material has a light weight, high toughness, heat resistance, high flame retardant characteristics. PI, PEEK, PPS and polyamideimide and other materials with high thermal expansion temperature and its adherence to the use of the temperature, so in the aerospace industry is more widely used.

2. Electronic information technology field

Specialty engineering plastics used in the field of electronic information. Mainly contains:

(1) electronic components (such as connectors, power sockets, insulation layer solenoid coils and tooth axis, etc.);

(2) Integrated circuit chip (IC) package form materials and lead-free solder-resistant materials;

(3) cutting-edge communication parts (such as optical waveguide materials, cell phone parts, etc.). Because of the excellent overall performance of special engineering plastics (if in a very thin condition can still maintain good heat resistance, etc.), so many mobile communications manufacturing producers are in the new generation of mobile communications equipment in the research and development process will focus on special engineering plastics.

(4) special engineering plastics in microelectronics technology industrial production is another important use of IC installation materials.

3. Medical services

In recent years. Synthetic polymer materials are commonly used as microbiological medical materials (such as artificial organs, urinary catheters, endoscopes, etc.). Because medical polymer materials can be adjusted to constitute the structure of the material and the material has different physical properties (such as resistance to aging of organisms, as a long-term embedded materials, conducive to processing and disinfection, etc.), so by the world's general attention to the microbiological materials into a wider range of use, the largest amount of types. It is easy to process, can withstand constant cleaning and sterilization, and is solvent resistant. As a result, it is slowly being used in the manufacture of medical devices, drug retardation systems, and synthetic human bones.

4. Power and energy field

The use of high-performance battery manufacturing is one of the most typical embodiment of the use of special engineering plastics in the field of energy. Hydrogen fuel cell is a kind of no ignition to electrochemical corrosion of energy in the way of mechanical energy into electrical energy of high efficiency power generation system.
