The difference between flame retardant ABS and PVC/ABS flame retardant
ABS is a flammable material. When ABS is on fire, it burns fast and emits a large amount of poisonous gas and black smoke, which is not conducive to practical application. People who have higher and higher requirements for quality of life are becoming more and more aware of safety. The plastic materials used in household appliances, office supplies, etc. have put forward strict requirements for fire resistance and flame retardancy, and corresponding technical standards and specifications have been formulated.
There are three main ways to reduce the flammability of ABS:
1. Use flame retardant polymers to blend with ABS, such as PVC, which is PVC/ABS flame retardant;
2. Chemically modify the existing ABS, such as adding three Bromostyrene is used as the fourth monomer to prepare four-component ABS, which belongs to flame retardant ABS;
3. Add flame retardants to ABS through general methods, including inorganic flame retardants (such as MoO3) and organic flame retardants (such as halogen compounds, phosphorus flame retardants). This is flame retardant ABS.
All of the above solutions can make the material meet the UL94-V0 flame retardant effect.
So since both can achieve the flame retardant effect, what are the advantages and disadvantages of flame retardant ABS and PVC/ABS flame retardant?
Flame retardant ABS must add a certain proportion of flame retardant if it wants to get a good flame retardant effect; The cost pressure of enterprises has increased sharply, and although the flame retardant performance meets the UL94-V0 level, the glow wire flame retardant test can only reach 650 degrees Celsius. If the customer requires more than 750 degrees Celsius, it is impossible to achieve.
PVC\ABS such as fuel is a new type of polymer alloy material that is blended and modified by ABS and plastic PVC. It not only has the advantages of good heat resistance, high impact strength, and easy molding of ABS, but also adds PVC flame , corrosion resistance and other advantages, and good flame retardancy. It not only complies with UL94-V0 flame retardant but also can meet the flame retardant requirements of glow wire 850 degrees Celsius. Since the price of PVC has advantages compared with ABS and flame retardants, it can reduce costs for customers who use flame retardant ABS.
