Different applications of general plastics, engineering plastics and special engineering plastics

Plastic

What does plastic mean:

Plastic is a material with Synthetic Resin as the basic component, which can be molded under certain conditions, and the final product can keep its shape. In addition to the basic components of synthetic resin, most plastics also contain auxiliary materials, such as fillers, plasticizers, stabilizers, etc.

What is a general purpose plastic:

According to the application, plastics are divided into general-purpose plastics and engineering plastics. General-purpose plastics have large output, low price, wide application and easy molding and processing, but their heat resistance, mechanical strength and rigidity are relatively low, and they are generally only used as non-structural materials, such as Polyethylene, Polypropylene, polyvinyl chloride, Polystyrene, etc.

Engineering plastic features:
Engineering plastics, also called engineering plastics, mainly refer to thermoplastics that can be used as structural materials. Engineering plastics have good comprehensive properties and high rigidity. Small creep, high mechanical strength, good heat resistance, good electrical insulation, can be used for a long time in harsh chemical and physical environments, and can be used as structural materials, but the price is more expensive and the output is small.

The difference between general engineering plastics and special engineering plastics:
Engineering plastics are divided into general engineering plastics and special engineering plastics. General engineering plastics are generally used at temperatures below 150°C, and the main varieties are polyamides (commonly known as nylon PA). Polyoxymethylene ( POM ), polycarbonate ( PC ). Polyphenylene ether (PPO or PPE), thermoplastic polyester (PBT, PET ), acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymer (ABS), ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene ( UHMWPE ), etc. The operating temperature of special engineering plastics is generally above 150°C. The main varieties are polysulfone (PSF), polyethersulfone (PES), Polyphenylene Sulfide ( PPS ), polyarylate (PAR), polyamideimide ( PAI ) , polyetherimide ( PEI ), Polyetheretherketone ( PEEK ), Polyimide ( PI ), liquid crystal polymer (LCP), fluoroplastics, etc.
