1.What is DuPont vespel ?
DuPont Vespel is a high-performance Polyimide material that offers a broad combination of temperature resistance, chemical resistance, mechanical toughness, natural lubricity, abrasion resistance, and insulating properties. DuPont Vespel SP-1 offers operating temperatures from cryogenic to 570°F (300°C), excellent plasma resistance, and a UL rating for minimal electrical and thermal conductivity.
Vespel is the commercial name for thermoset polyimide (PI) produced by DuPont, and SP-1 is a conventional grade, pure PI.
Vespel is one of the most heat-resistant and wear-resistant of the high performance resins now available in the market and in mass production, and it can be used in non-lubricated conditions (high PV value) at a height of more than 10 times, without affecting other materials, and therefore will not cause any harm.
DuPont Vespel is a typical representative of the polyimide (PI) plastic series.
2.DuPont Vespel is a typical representative of the polyimide (PI) plastic family.
VESPEL-SP1 (brown): Mechanical strength and electrical properties of the basic grade.
VESPEL-SP21 (black): A 15% graphite-filled specification that provides abrasion properties and heat resistance.
VESPEL-SP211 (black): Static coefficient of friction obtained with 15% graphite and 10% PTFE filling. Suitable for use in medium temperature environments.
VESPEL-SP22 (black): 40% graphite filled for low coefficient of expansion and creep resistance.
VESPEL-SP3 (black): 15% molybdenum disulfide filled specification for friction sliding requirements in vacuum or inert gas.
3.What is DuPont Vespel SP-1?
Vespel ® SP-1 is an unfilled base resin grade. SP-1 provides maximum physical strength, elongation and toughness, as well as optimum electrical and thermal insulation values.
4.What is DuPont Vespel SP-21?
Vespel® SP-21 Plate and Vespel® Bar - DuPont Vespel® SP-21 grades contain 15 percent graphite by weight to improve wear resistance and reduce friction in bearings, thrust washers, bushings, seals, slides and other applied wear applications. Vespel SP-21 has the highest mechanical properties of graphite-filled grades.
5.What is DuPont Vespel SP-3?
Vespel® SP-3 is a 15% molybdenum-filled (molybdenum disulfide solid lubricant) for wear and friction in vacuum and other anhydrous environments where graphite is actually abrasive. Typical applications for Vespel SP-3 include seals, bushings, bearings, gears and other wear surfaces in outer space, ultra-high vacuum or dry gas applications.
6.Characteristics of VESPEL SP grades
①Heat Resistance: The heat resistance temperature can reach 288℃ for continuous use and 480℃ for short time use.
② Wear resistance: Vespel® non-lubrication limit PV value is more than 10 times that of general engineering plastics, and it has strong resistance to impact abrasion and shaking abrasion.
③ Creep: Creep under the condition of 260℃ and 186KG/㎝2 is only 0.6% for 1000 hours. Deformation of load: 1/70 of teflon® and 1/10 of nylon at 50 ℃ and 140KG/㎝2.
④Resistance: Resistant to grease, oil, and solvent. Like metal, it is not burned.
