What is Ultem?

1.Ultem is a polyetherimide plastic produced by General Motors.

2.PEI has the best high temperature resistance and dimensional stability, as well as chemical resistance, flame retardant, electrical, high strength, high rigidity, etc.

3.PEI resin can be widely used in high temperature terminals, IC chassis, lighting equipment, FPCB (Flexible Printed Circuit Boards), liquid transportation equipment, aircraft internal components, medical equipment and Household appliances, etc.

Ultem® (polyetherimide)

Polyetherimide characteristics:

1. Polyetherimide is characterized by high strength, high rigidity, abrasion resistance and dimensional stability at high temperatures.

2. Polyetherimide is amber transparent solid, without adding any additives on the inherent flame retardancy and low smoke, oxidation index of 47%, combustion grade UL94-V-0.

3. The density of polyetherimide is 1.28~1.42g/cm3, glass transition temperature is 215℃, heat distortion temperature is 198~208℃, it can be used for a long time under 160~180℃, and it is permitted to be used intermittently with a maximum temperature of 200℃.

4. Polyetherimide has excellent mechanical strength, electrical insulation properties, radiation resistance, high and low temperature resistance and fatigue resistance and molding properties; adding glass fiber, carbon fiber or other fillers can be achieved to enhance the purpose of modification.

Polyetherimide properties:

Polyetherimide has a wide range of chemical resistance, including resistance to most hydrocarbons, alcohols and all halogenated solvents; also resistant to inorganic acids and short-term resistance to weak bases. For some halogenated solvents, polyetherimide is a good choice. It has excellent hydrolytic stability, maintaining more than 85% tensile strength after 10,000 hours of immersion in boiling water, and 100% tensile strength after 2,000 cycles of steam heat compression at 270F. Polyetherimide has excellent resistance to UV and Y-rays, and the tensile strength is maintained at 94% when processed under 400 Mrad of cobalt ray radiation.
