What is the difference between ordinary POM and POM-C

October 14, 2021
The molecular structure of POM has two types: homopolyoxymethylene (POM-500P) and copolyoxymethylene (POM-FM090)
Homopolymer materials have good ductility and fatigue strength, but they are not easy to process. Copolymer materials have good thermal and chemical stability and are easy to process. Both homopolymer and copolymer materials are crystalline materials and are not easy to absorb moisture.
Properties: It is a crystalline thermoplastic plastic with an obvious melting point of 165~175°C, and the property is closest to metal. It is generally called plastic steel (Saigang)
Advantages: 1. High mechanical strength and rigidity (high elastic modulus)
2. The highest fatigue strength (small friction coefficient)
3. Good environmental resistance and resistance to organic solvents (aldehydes, acids, ethers, hydrocarbons, weak acids, weak bases, organic solvents)
4. Strong impact resistance
5. Wide operating temperature range (-40℃~120℃)
6. Good electrical properties
7. Good recovery
8. It has lubricity and good wear resistance
9. Excellent size stability, low water absorption,
10 There is still good creep resistance at low temperatures
Disadvantages: 1. If the processing process is prone to thermal decomposition under high temperature for a long time
2. No self-extinguishing
3. Poor acid resistance (not resistant to strong acids and oxidants)
4. Large forming shrinkage
Drying treatment: If the material is stored in a dry environment, it usually does not need to be dried.
Melting temperature: 190~230C for homopolymer materials; 190~210C for copolymer materials.
Mold temperature: 80~105C. In order to reduce the shrinkage after molding, a higher mold temperature can be used.
Injection pressure: 700~1200bar
Injection speed: medium or high injection speed.
Color: glossy hard and dense yellowish or white material
Shrinkage: 1.5-2.5% ordinary 1.8%
Proportion: 1.41-1.43
Baking temperature and time: not required
Easy to burn: easy
Whether to extinguish after leaving the fire: continue to burn
Flame status: upper yellow and lower blue
Plastic change state: easy to melt and drip
Burning smell: strong irritating smell of formaldehyde, fishy smell
Uses: Electronic appliances: washing machine, juicer parts, timer components
Automobile: Handlebar parts, power window parts
Industrial parts: mechanical parts, gears, handles, toys, screws
Comparison: POM-FM090 (belonging to copolymerized POM) Uses: fasteners, snaps, pipe fittings and hardware, gears, electronic parts, auto parts, household appliances, bearings, and other injection parts.
Features: standard fluidity, low mold scale
POM-FM270 uses: snaps, zippers, gears, electronic parts, auto parts, household appliances.
Features: high fluidity, low mold fouling.
POM-500P: (belonging to homopolymer POM) General mechanical parts, gears, zippers, cams. There are materials available for machining.
For general use, the surface is lubricated with resin and has excellent processing and molding characteristics. Uniform and good characteristics. Medium viscosity, impact resistance and good creep properties.

Creep: The phenomenon of slow plastic deformation of metal materials under constant temperature and constant stress for a long time is called creep
