Polyphenylene Sulfide (PPS) exhibits an excellent combination of properties in chemical and high-temperature environments, including abrasion resistance, high load capacity and dimensional stability. In addition, PPS profile denseness, good hardness and excellent resistance to chemical corrosion performance in a variety of industrial equipment in a wide range of applications, such as industrial drying and food processing ovens, chemical equipment, mechanical bearings and electrical insulation systems, etc. PPS profiles can be used for a long time at 220 ℃, has not yet been found in the solvent below 200 ℃ can be dissolved in the PPS, so the PPS is even at high temperatures to inorganic acids, alkalis, salts, etc. corrosion resistance is also quite good. Inorganic acids, alkalis, salts and other corrosion resistance is also quite good.PPS in the absence of added flame retardants, in the UL94 flammability test for V-0/5V, is a higher level.

First, mechanical processing
 
Cutting: you can use a sawmill for straight line cutting, for thinner PPS boards, you can also use knives for manual cutting. In the cutting process, attention should be paid to the selection of appropriate tools and cutting parameters to avoid burrs, cracks and other defects on the edge of the plate.
 
Drilling: Use a drill to perform drilling operations, which can process holes of different diameters as needed. Drilling should control the feed speed and rotational speed to prevent the plate from overheating and deformation or cracks.
 
Milling: use the milling machine to carry out plane milling, contour milling and other processing of PPS plate, you can get the shape and size. Milling process should pay attention to the selection of tools and the adjustment of cutting parameters to ensure the quality of processing.
 
Turning: For cylindrical PPS parts, lathe can be used for turning processing. When turning, pay attention to the sharpness of the tool and the depth of cut to avoid vibration lines and surface roughness and other problems.
 
Second, thermoforming processing
 
Hot compression molding: PPS plate will be heated to a certain temperature to make it soften, and then put into the mold, apply a certain pressure to make it molded into the desired shape. Hot compression molding can create a complex shape of the parts, and has a high dimensional accuracy and surface quality.
 
Blister molding: It is suitable for manufacturing thin-walled and hollow PPS products. The heated and softened PPS plate is covered on the mold, and the plate is adsorbed on the surface of the mold by vacuuming to form. Suction molding process is simple, low cost, but the molding precision is relatively low.
 
Blow molding: mainly used for manufacturing hollow PPS containers. The heated and softened PPS blank is put into the mold, and compressed air is used to make it expand and mold. Blow molding can produce products with complex shapes and large volumes, but the requirements for molds and equipment are high.
 
Third, connection processing
 
Welding: PPS board can be connected by hot plate welding, ultrasonic welding, laser welding and other methods. Welding should pay attention to control the welding temperature, pressure and time to ensure welding strength and sealing.
 
Gluing: Use suitable adhesive to connect PPS board with other materials. Gluing process is simple, low cost, but the strength of the glue is relatively low, and the need to choose a good compatibility with the PPS board adhesive.
 
Mechanical connection: such as the use of bolts, nuts, rivets and other connections. Mechanical connection is high strength and good reliability, but it will leave connection holes in the plate, which may affect the aesthetics and sealing.

Modification of PPS
 
PPS has many excellent properties, but there are also injection molding more flying edges, poor product toughness and other shortcomings. In order to solve these shortcomings, can be modified to develop high-performance PPS modified materials.
 
1. PPS blending toughening modification
 
① filler reinforced grade toughening (improve thermal shock resistance)
 
Inorganic filler reinforced PPS filler grade with high dimensional accuracy, high rigidity, creep resistance, in the field of automotive, mechanical parts are widely used. However, glass fiber reinforced PPS and other general engineering plastics are relatively brittle, lack of toughness, so that its application is limited. In order to improve the toughness of glass fiber reinforced PPS, often using polymer alloy method. For example, PPS and elastomer alloys, neither loss of PPS itself and increased toughness.
 
② Non-reinforced grade toughening (ultra-high impact PPS)
 
Non-reinforced grade toughening is also achieved through the alloy of PPS and elastomers. the glass transition temperature of PPS is 100 ℃, so its low-temperature toughness is very poor, not suitable for use in low-temperature environments still need to be high toughness of the structure of the material. PPS after elastomer modification, PPS materials can be made at room temperature and low temperatures have a high degree of toughness, and also greatly broadens the application of the PPS field.
 
2. PA blend modified PPS
 
PPS and PA blend modification, can significantly improve the impact strength of the product, the two can be at a higher temperature to produce a very good melt mixing effect.
 
3. PC blend modified PPS
 
PC blend modified PPS, can improve the impact strength of PPS to a large extent, tensile strength and other mechanical properties, but the flame retardant and electrical properties have declined, the use of some attention.
 
4. PSF blend modified PPS
 
PSF resin has good mechanical properties, dielectric properties, chemical stability and heat resistance, but the PSF melt viscosity is large, to the molding process has brought some difficulties. PSF blended with PPS, can reduce viscosity, improve processing performance, the material can be used to manufacture gears, bearings, electrical switches, insulating covers and containers.
 
5 PTFE co-mingled modified PPS
 
PPS / PTFE co-mingled gold when excellent wear resistance and low coefficient of friction materials, especially suitable for the production of bearings, PPS-based blends than simple PPS has a higher toughness and corrosion resistance.
 
6. PEEK co-mingled modified PPS
 
The two can be blended to improve the processing conditions of PEEK, reduce the cost of PEEK and improve the toughness of PEEK, so as to obtain a new type of high-performance composite materials that can synthesize the advantages of PPS and PEEK.
 
7. Polyester blend modified PPS
 
With high molecular weight linear polyester and PPS blend modification, can get heat resistance, high strength thermoplastic varieties, can be used in the manufacture of gears, bearings, electrical switches and insulating cover.
 
8. LCP blend modified PPS
 
In recent years, due to the special chemical structure of liquid crystal polymers with high strength, high modulus, low viscosity, easy to process and many other excellent characteristics, resulting in LCP has been a hot spot for research and development in the field of polymer research and development, PPS and LCP blending, you can get PPS reinforced composite materials.
 
 
Application of PPS
 
Because PPS has good heat resistance, excellent mechanical properties, and good chemical stability and water resistance, so PPS products are widely used in many fields.
 
1. Electronic, electrical, electrical industry applications

2. Applications in the automotive industry
