TECAMID---Ensinger Extruded Nylon Product Introduction

PA material, commonly known as nylon, can also be referred to as polyamide. Thanks to its good balance between performance and cost, PA materials are ideal for replacing metals in many industrial applications. Nylon plastic grades are often denoted by numbers that relate to the molecular structure of the nylon plastic, and each structural type has different properties. The most commonly used extruded polyamide grades are TECAMID 6, TECAMID 66 and TECAMID 12. Typical applications include gears, sliding pads, support bars, chain guides, etc.

In general, nylon is a semi-crystalline thermoplastic with low density and high thermal stability. Due to its excellent wear resistance, good coefficient of friction and very good temperature and impact resistance, polyamide is one of the most important as well as useful technical thermoplastics. In addition, polyamides (nylon) exhibit very good chemical resistance and are particularly resistant to oils. However, nylon plastics have a certain degree of hygroscopicity and are therefore less dimensionally stable than other engineering plastics. The properties of the different families of polyamides vary from the hard and tough Pa66 material to the soft and flexible PA12 material.

As two completely different production methods, there are significant differences in the dimensional specifications of extruded and cast nylon products. The extrusion process typically produces small-sized, high-volume sheets, rods and tubes, while the casting process typically produces small quantities of large semi-finished products with low levels of internal stress. At Ensinger, the corresponding grade for extruded nylon is TECAMID and the corresponding grade for cast nylon is TECAST.
