What is PTFE?

English abbreviation: PTFE

Chinese name: Polytetrafluoroethylene

Chinese alias: PTFE/teflon/Teflon/teflon/Teflon/4F/King of Plastics

English name: Polytetrafluoroethylene (abbreviated as Teflon or [PTFE, F4])

There is a material in chemistry called polytetrafluoroethylene, the molecular formula is (C2F4)n, F is the abbreviation of fluorine in the periodic table of chemical elements, from which it can be easily inferred that F4 is the abbreviation of polytetrafluoroethylene. This F4 is confused with that "F4".

F4 is an anti-acid, anti-alkali, and anti-all kinds of organic solvents. It is almost insoluble in all solvents. Therefore, F4 is insoluble, unsealable, and non-weldable.

PTFE has the characteristics of high temperature resistance, high temperature resistance can reach 260 ℃, and the friction coefficient of PTFE is extremely low, so it is not only used for lubrication, but also an ideal coating for the inner layer of water pipes that are easy to clean.

What is FEP

Name: Fep tube, F46 tube, transparent Teflon tube, FEP tube, Teflon tubing

Color: Clear, Black, Yellow, Brown, Green, Blue

Characteristic:

Operating temperature: -200 degrees to 200 degrees

Ease of processing: can be flanged and welded

Aging resistance: can be exposed to ozone and sunlight for a long time without aging

Commonly used specifications: inner diameter * outer diameter (unit: mm)

Metric: 2*4 3*5 4*6 5*7 6*8 8*10 8*12 9*12 10*12

12*14 14*16 16*18 18*20 20*22

Imperial: 1/8 inch (1.6*3.2) 1/4 inch (3.96*6.35) 3/8 inch (6.35*9.525)

1/2 inch (9.5*12.7) 3/4 inch (15.88*19.05) 1 inch (22.2*25.4)

Other specifications can be produced, inner diameter 0.5mm to inner diameter 200mm, wall thickness 0.12mm to 3mm

FEP(1)

The full name of FEP is Fluorinated ethylene propylene, which is translated as fluorinated ethylene propylene copolymer (perfluorinated ethylene propylene copolymer). English trade name: Teflon. FEP is a class of chemicals. FEP is a copolymer of tetrafluoroethylene and hexafluoropropylene. The melting point of FEP crystal is 304°C, and the density is 2.15g/CC (grams/cubic centimeter).

FEP does not ignite and can prevent the spread of flames. It has excellent wear resistance, low friction coefficient, and can be used from low temperature to 392F. The material can be produced as granular products for extrusion and molding, as a powder for fluidized bed and electrostatic coating, or as an aqueous dispersion.

FEP can be applied to soft plastics, and its tensile strength, wear resistance, and creep resistance are lower than many engineering plastics. It is chemically inert and has a low dielectric constant over a wide temperature and frequency range.

FEP has excellent wear resistance and low friction coefficient, and can be used from low temperature to 392F. The material can be produced as granular products for extrusion and molding, as a powder for fluidized bed and electrostatic coating, or as an aqueous dispersion. Semi-finished products include film and board. rods and monofilaments. FEP films have been used as thin coatings for solar collectors.

Polyperfluoroethylene-propylene resin (FEP) has similar properties to polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) and has good processing technology for thermoplastics, making it an important material to replace PTFE. F-46 (polyfluoroethylene-propylene) is widely used in the production of wires and cables for electronic equipment transmission lines used under high temperature and high frequency, internal connecting lines of electronic computers, aerospace wires, and other special-purpose installation lines, oil mine logging Cables, submersible motor winding wires, micromotor lead wires, etc.

PTFE Vs.FEP

F46 polyperfluoroethylene propylene is a kind of fluoroplastic developed to overcome the disadvantages of poor processing and forming properties of polytetrafluoroethylene.

It is a copolymer of polytetrafluoroethylene (F4) and polyhexafluoropropylene (F6). Polytetrafluoroethylene propylene (F4) is a synthetic polymer material that uses fluorine to replace all hydrogen atoms in Polyethylene. The famous application of polytetrafluoroethylene (F4) is the exterior wall material of the Water Cube, which is the largest concentrated use in the world.

To sum up, there are two differences between F4 and F46

1. High temperature resistance

F4 High temperature resistance 260℃

F46 High temperature resistance 200℃

2. Different solubility

F4 insoluble, non-sealable, non-weldable

F46 soluble, sealable, weldable
