What is PEEK connectors ?
PEEK is a thermoplastic, semi-crystalline material with excellent mechanical and chemical resistance that remains unchanged at elevated temperatures.PEEK has a glass transition temperature of approximately 143 °C (289 °F) and a melting point of approximately 343 °C (662 °F). This is why PEEK seals and manifolds are commonly used in fluid applications. PEEK also performs well in applications where sustained high temperatures (up to 500 °F/260 °C) are common.
It is highly resistant to halogens, thermal degradation, biodegradation, and air leakage: helium leakage test ≤ 1 x 10 -3 Pa.cm 3 /s Because of its robustness, PEEK is used to manufacture items (e.g., military-grade connectors) for demanding applications including bearings, piston parts, pumps, HPLC columns, compressor plate valves, and cable insulation. It is one of the few plastics compatible with ultra-high vacuum applications.
PEEK connectors, which we also call PEEK sealed terminals or HTHP connectors, as the name suggests, are made of PEEK material combined with metal contacts, and glass sintering technology is used to seal the PEEk material and contacts with perfect air tightness.
PEEK, physical properties advantage, pressure 30,000PSI / 207Mpa, limit temperature 300 ℃, to meet the special areas and high-performance solutions. Therefore, peek connectors can be used in harsh conditions.
Today's electronic components and connectors on the increasing demand for special engineering plastics peek, in the face of a variety of complex working conditions, peek as a high-performance specialty plastics can promote the design of smaller, thinner connectors, but also to improve the quality and product performance.
Advantages of special engineering plastics peek:
Long-lasting reliability in harsh environments
Design and processing flexibility to mold complex, precision parts through injection molding processes
Good performance across a wide range of electrical and electronic frequencies
Cost-effective for controlling product costs
Peek is well suited for lead-free solder interconnections, which are often required for mobile device connectors including flexible printed circuit (FPC) connectors.PEEK material overcomes the problems of brittleness and weak solder joints that are commonly found in LCP connectors. The high flow grades of PEEK can be filled with sheet thicknesses of 0.1-0.2mm (0.004-0.008in). Other types of cell phone connectors, such as coaxial cable connectors, require abrasion resistance and dielectric properties at high frequencies. peek polymers have good dielectric properties at both room and elevated temperatures.
1. Cell Phone Coaxial Connectors
When TE Connectivity selected PEEK 150GL30 for their cell phone coaxial connectors, they needed a material that would maintain dielectric properties at high processing temperatures and frequencies. By using PEEK polymer, they were able to maintain performance at temperatures up to 260°C (500°F) and frequencies up to 6 GHz.
2. Automotive
Legislative requirements for high voltage connectors in electric and hybrid vehicles have created a need for higher performance materials. pEEK is GADSL and RoHs compliant. Designers and manufacturers of other vehicle systems such as exhaust gas sensors are being driven by more stringent performance requirements such as broader chemical resistance and higher dimensional stability at extreme temperatures.PEEK and its high-temperature variants, PEEK ST and PEEK HT polymers, are able to withstand the condensation of automotive fluids and exhaust gases, which contributes to a longer lifespan and improved reliability of the finished product.
3. Aerospace
Aerospace engineers need lightweight materials that provide design flexibility, reduced manufacturing costs, and durability in harsh environments. peek has successfully replaced metals, traditional composites, and other plastics in a growing number of aerospace applications because of their superb inertness, inherent flame retardancy, lightweight, and ease of fabrication into tight-tolerance parts, and electrical connector components.
