Saint-Gobain Rulon classification and application

Rulon® PTFE is a versatile and high-performance material, which belongs to the series of proprietary, homogenous filled materials that provide low friction and high wear life. This material is often used in automotive and industrial applications, and can tolerate adverse conditions such as aggressive chemicals, dry running, and abrasion with the potential to work under extreme pressure and temperature ranges. Over a period of time, several Rulon® grades have been developed for particular custom applications because they can be custom made into wear components, cup seals, piston rings, bearings, and other major parts.

Properties and uses of Rulon series materials

Material grade

Color

Characteristic

Application

Rulon®AR

Light maroon

More flexible than Rulon® LR

Suitable for sealing and adhering to the surface of slide rails, used for shaft seals of automobiles and cups of fuel dosing pumps.

Rulon®LR

Maroon

Extremely strong chemical stability

Suitable for rubbing against most hard steels, can also be used on mild steels, runs better on harder surfaces.

Rulon®J

Dark gold

Excellent friction performance

It works well on low-hardness surfaces such as 316 stainless steel, aluminum, low-hardness steel, brass, plastic, etc. It is an ideal material for bearings and wear parts.

Rulon®641

White

FDA certified material, excellent bearing capacity and wear resistance

Suitable for many mating surfaces, including mild steel, 303 and 316 stainless steel and hard materials, it is an ideal material for bearings in the food and pharmaceutical industries.

Rulon®V2

Black

Low friction, wear resistance and good heat dissipation performance

DWGV (European) certified drinking water material. Suitable for most metal and soft surfaces.

Rulon®123

Black

Average wear resistance, excellent chemical resistance

FDA, USDA, NSR certified materials, the price is slightly lower, and black debris will be produced after long-term use, which is not suitable for occasions that require electrical insulation. Avoid use in ultra-dry and vacuum applications.

Rulon®488

Dark turquoise

Ultra-low wear in extremely dry environments

Shaft sleeves widely used in drying equipment

Rulon®957

Speckled green

Strong carrying capacity

Noise-reducing and low-abrasion materials are widely used in commercial or residential clothes dryers.

Rulon®XL

Brown

Wear-resistant, not easily deformed under load, excellent chemical resistance

Suitable for most mating surfaces, avoid use in alkaline environments, and is the best material for vacuum applications.

Rulon®142

Dark blue green

With low wear, high heat dissipation and good dimensional stability

The non-deformable feature greatly reduces the misalignment that is easy to occur when used as a bearing material. It is an ideal material for machine tools and should be avoided in strong acid and alkali environments.

Rulon®945

Black

Loads are not prone to wear or deformation

Suitable for hard mating surfaces such as hardened steel. It is not suitable for environments that require electrical insulation performance.

Rulon®1045

Dark gold

Chemical resistance, ductility and abrasion resistance

Applied to bearings or sliding surfaces
