Comparison of Duratron U1000 PEI and Tecapei unfilled Ultem

June 20, 2023

Duratron U1000 PEI is an amber-colored translucent (non-optical) amorphous thermoplastic material with high strength and high temperature resistance. It can operate continuously below 170 °C, making it ideal for high strength and high thermal applications, and is also well suited for applications requiring consistent dielectric properties.

Tecapei is a polyetherimide based polymer, sometimes called PEI material, an amorphous thermoplastic with high mechanical strength and rigidity. The polyetherimide or PEI polymer is extruded from Ensinger in sheet and rod form using SABIC Ultem resin. Unfilled PEI thermoplastics are translucent, amber in color, and have excellent mechanical, thermal and electrical properties. Polyetherimide, often referred to as Ultem plastic, has physical properties very similar to those of polyaryl sulfone, while also offering significant advantages. The material has extremely high creep resistance at a wide range of temperatures and, moreover, polyetherimide has a high permanent working temperature. Very good resistance to hydrolysis, as well as dimensional stability, round out the typical polyetherimide property portfolio. tecapei has many applications in the medical, electrical/electronic, microwave, automotive and aircraft industries. Excellent mechanical strength, excellent heat resistance, excellent environmental resistance, inherent flame retardancy, low smoke generation, high mechanical strength, high dielectric strength, low loss factor, wide frequency range, excellent machinability and finishing characteristics.
