Ertalyte® is a family of unreinforced, semi-crystalline thermoplastic polyester based on polyethylene terephthalate (PET-P) products. The specific properties of virgin crystalline PET make it especially suitable for the manufacture of mechanical precision parts must endure high loads and wear conditions. It is characterized as having excellent dimensional stability coupled with excellent wear resistance, a low coefficient of friction, high strength, and resistance to moderately acidic solutions. Ertalyte®'s continuous service temperature is 210°F (100°C) and its melting point is almost 150°F higher than acetals. It retains significantly more of its original strength up to 180°F (85°C) than nylon or acetal. For food-grade PET-P, Ertalyte® grades are excellent candidates for parts used in the food processing and equipment industries.
Products in the Ertalyte® family (6)
Ertalyte® TX Food Grade PET-P
Ertalyte® TX Food Grade PET-P is an unreinforced, semi-crystalline grade that exhibits superior dimensional stability, excellent wear resistance, a low coefficient of friction, high strength and rigidity, outstanding stain resistance, and great chemical and abrasion resistance. Due to its low moisture absorption rate, this grade’s mechanical and electrical properties are unaffected by moisture, which gives this grade better wear and inertness than nylon and acetal products, as well as a lower wear rate than unmodified polyesters. Due to these characteristics, and this grade’s FDA (compositional FDA 21 CFR § 177.2470) and EU 10/2011 food compliant composition, Ertalyte® TX Food Grade PET-P components are a favored solution for use in applications that involve high pressure and velocity conditions, and environments with soft metal and plastic mating surfaces where noise abatement is critical.
Material Properties
Superior dimensional stability
Low moisture absorption rate ensures consistent mechanical and electrical performance
Excellent wear resistance with a low coefficient of friction
High strength and rigidity
Excellent stain resistance
Ideal for high pressure and velocity conditions
Ertalyte® PET FG
Produced from our proprietary resin grades, Ertalyte® PET FG (Food Grade) is an unreinforced, semi-crystalline grade that is characterized by its excellent wear resistance, low coefficient of friction, high strength, and resistance to moderately acidic solutions. This grade is capable of sustaining high loads, and retains more of its original strength up to 180° F / 85° C than nylons or acetals. Due to these characteristics and its FDA (compositional FDA 21 CFR § 177.1630) and EU 10/2011 food compliant composition, Ertalyte® PET FG components are a favored solution for bearing and structural applications throughout the pharmaceutical, food processing and packaging, and oil and gas industries.
Material Properties
Excellent wear resistance and low coefficient of friction
FDA 21 CFR § 177.1630 and EU 10/2011 food compliant
High strength
Resistant to moderately acidic solutions
High load bearing capacity
Great strength retention up to 180° F / 85° C
Ertalyte® SLP PET-P
Ertalyte® SLP is a bearing-grade PET-P that offers excellent wear resistance, low coefficient of friction and high strength. Developed specifically for use in wind turbines to change yaw systems from roller bearings into cost-effective slide bearings, this specialty PET-P exhibits low wear, low friction, and high load capabilities. The material is also more rigid and provides better thermal performance than nylons or acetals.
Material Properties
Excellent wear resistance and low coefficient of friction
High mechanical strength, high load capabilities
Greater rigidity and better thermal performance than nylons or acetals
Developed specifically for use in wind turbine yaw systems
Ertalyte® TX PET-P
Ertalyte® TX Polyethylene Terephthalate Polyester PET-P is an unreinforced, semi-crystalline grade that exhibits superior dimensional stability, excellent wear resistance, a low coefficient of friction, high strength and rigidity, outstanding stain resistance, and great chemical and abrasion resistance. Due to Ertalyte® TX PET-P’s low moisture absorption rate, this grade’s mechanical and electrical properties are unaffected by moisture, which gives this grade better wear and inertness over nylon and acetal products, and also a lower wear rate than unmodified polyesters. These characteristics make Ertalyte® TX PET-P ideal for use in applications that involve high pressure and velocity conditions, and environments with soft metal and plastic mating surfaces where noise abatement is critical.
Material Properties
High mechanical strength, stiffness, and hardness
Very good creep resistance
Low and constant coefficient of friction
Excellent wear resistance (comparable to or even better than Nylon grades)
Very good dimensional stability (better than Polyacetal)
Physiologically inert (suitable for food contact)
