According to our experience with POM turned parts, POM material is not very heat resistant and considerable heat is generated during turning. Although the cutting fluid provides some help, tool wear is still noticeable. HSS machine tools are no problem, if it is a normal POM material. But some POM materials have Special Materials added, such as fiberglass.

What is POM?
 
POM (Polyoxymethylene, or Polyformaldehyde) is a high-density, highly crystalline, linear polymer without lateral lines. Depending on the chemical structure in its molecular chain, POM can be divided into two types: homopolyformaldehyde and copolyformaldehyde. -Polyformaldehyde. The significant differences between these two types of POM are shown below.
 
Homopolyformaldehyde Has a high density, high crystallinity, and high melting point, but has poor thermal stability, a narrow processing temperature range (about 10°C), and slightly lower acid and alkali stability.
 
Co-polyformaldehyde has a low density, low crystallinity and low melting point, but also has good thermal stability, a wide processing temperature range (about 50 ℃), acid and alkali stability, not easy to decompose.
 
POM is an engineering plastic with excellent comprehensive performance. It has good physical properties, good mechanical properties and good chemical properties, especially excellent friction resistance.POM is also the third largest general engineering plastics.
 
What can we do with POM?
 
POM is suitable for the manufacture of wear reduction or wear-resistant parts, transmission parts, chemical parts and instrumentation parts. Due to its good stiffness and high friction resistance, POM is widely used in gears, bearings, automotive parts, machines, internal parts and instruments.
 
Therefore, many POM turned parts suppliers will ensure high performance tools. Such as diamond coated tools, triangular ceramic grooving tools, hand-ground boring tools and so on. Some POM turned parts require high appearance or finish. After turning approximately 3,000 POM parts with a hand ground boring tool, the holes in the POM parts will look pale. The boring tool will need to be reworked and then the POM part may turn black and shiny again.
